Overview of role:
The Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader is a hands-on leadership position within the Maintenance Services team at Coliban Water. The role combines technical mechanical maintenance work with leading and supervising a team of fitters, technicians and apprentices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach and support the mechanical maintenance team.
- Perform and oversee maintenance, repairs and installation of mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, pipework, gearboxes, blowers and treatment plant assets.
- Plan and prioritise daily work, resources, contractors and materials.
- Provide technical advice, fault-finding expertise and reliability improvements.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with procedures and permits.
- Respond to breakdowns and incidents, including after-hours callouts when rostered.
- Support staff development, onboarding and performance management.
About you:
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate strong safety leadership and risk management.
- Have proven experience leading maintenance teams.
- Possess advanced mechanical trade skills and fault-finding capability.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, customers and stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement, reliability and customer-focused outcomes
Skills and Experience Required:
- Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter and Turner, or equivalent.
- Significant experience in mechanical maintenance and repairs.
- Experience leading or coordinating tradespeople, apprentices or contractors.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance systems, workplace safety, permits and high-risk work requirements
