Overview of role:
This role is part of the Assets & Operations group and has a pivotal contribution to Coliban Water’s success by being focussed on ensuring Coliban Water provides high quality customer services by efficiently and effectively managing water resources, water and wastewater systems, creating and managing infrastructure, oversight of our strategic partners and planning for long term growth and development of the region.
This role contributes to the overall Group objectives by:
- Maintaining GIS system functionality
- Maintaining GIS system integrity
- Performing asset data loading activities
- Conducting reporting and information gathering requirements
- Provide input to integration activities
- Participate in general GIS team activities
- Contributing to business improvement and risk management
- Occupational Health and Safety and Environment
- Undertaking professional development
Key Responsibilities:
As our GIS Officer you’ll be accountable for:
Contribute to system functional design and provide assistance in implementing solutions for its operation:
- Liaise with software suppliers and custom-development organisations
- Assist with incident reporting
- Assist with developing specifications of new requirements or changing needs
- Liaise with internal and external users of the system on system-based aspects of spatial clarity and speed and information gathering/displaying techniques
- Assist with definition, testing and implementation of data integrity through formulas and/or other mechanisms
- Assist with system documentation – technical, development, training, etc
- General communications regarding GIS and related aspects, both internal to Coliban Water and other external organisations
Undertake quality assurance of the data inputted into the system to ensure ongoing functional integrity:
- Assist with the control of fundamental aspects of system such as configuration, system settings, custom development, data definition, code table management
- Assist with identifying and designing changes to and development of custom configurations.
- Maintain technical skill relevant to System
- Assist with maintaining accurate records, statistics and reports
- Assist with development and implementation of systems to measure, audit and maintain data quality
Assist with reporting and information gathering requirements:
- Assist with design and development of system report screens / tabs
- Assist with specification and construction of report development
Assist with Administration activities specifically relating to GIS:
- Participate in team/departmental meetings and other organisational meetings, where appropriate
- Assist with User Group prioritisation and/or facilitation
- Prepare relevant reports and correspondence
- Contribute to reports defining the need for improvements to infrastructure
About you:
Relevant work experience in GIS data capture, analysis and reporting and/or a qualification which may be acquired through 1-year minimum experience using a desktop GIS software (preferably ESRI suite) Vocational education to the standard of Certificate III/IV
In addition to the qualifications and experience specified above, you will be required to meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrated experience in the manual capture, manipulation and editing of digital spatial data to improve the functionality, quality and integrity of GIS datasets
- Demonstrated experience, understanding and application of fundamental and modern cartographic principles, conventions and digital mapping technologies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively consult and negotiate with staff, customers and external organisations to achieve win/win outcomes
- A team player, with a proven record supporting a positive work environment resulting in high performing teams which achieve objectives and demonstrate continuous improvement in quality and service delivery. Commitment to Coliban Water's leadership brand is essential.
- An ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and well developed project management experience with evidence of requests, reports and projects delivered on time

Salary:
The salary and conditions for this position will be as per the Coliban Water Enterprise Agreement 2021 Band 2 $62,475-$72,897+ superannuation salary range will be offered to the successful candidate commensurate with their skills and experience. This role is a Fulltime Ongoing position.
